5 Game-Changing Strategies I Used to Fix What Was Off While Trying to Build a Relationship Brand
and instead of overthinking it, i decided to experiment...
ever felt like something’s just not working with your brand? 😟
you’re posting content… running campaigns… maybe even getting some traction…
but deep down, you know…
something’s off.
that was me a few months ago while working on JorrDaar Couple...
My team & I, were trying to do everything by the book, but the vibe wasn’t clicking.
the audience wasn’t as engaged as i’d hoped.
the content wasn’t connecting on that emotional level.
and let’s be real… it was frustrating.
but instead of overthinking it, i decided to experiment even when we have just started the social media & marketing activities for this brand recently.
and let me tell you, these 5 strategies were game-changers for fixing what was off.
1️⃣ audience-first, content-second
most brands do this backward.
they create content and hope the audience relates to it.
but your content should be built around your audience’s desires, pain points, and lifestyle.
for JorrDaar Couple, i asked:
what does our audience want to see?
gen z? they want relatable humor, memes, and behind-the-scenes.
millennials? they love nostalgia, raw emotions, and aspirational vibes.
once i made this shift, I started loving the executions more & we are now getting genuine feedback in our dms from couple of people.
we are still a new born baby with this brand but we are listening to almost every little feedback possible because we are planning to activate a lot of content assets in near future.
2️⃣ test, fail, adjust, repeat
marketing is not a one-size-fits-all game.
initially, i thought of sticking to one format: short, crisp reels with trending audio.
but guess what? it wasn’t enough.
so, i started testing everything:
longer captions vs. shorter ones.
behind-the-scenes reels vs. polished ones.
storytelling vs. straight-up advice.
yes, some ideas will flop.
but others? they will surely hit hard.
the audience decides what works, not you.
3️⃣ stop trying to appeal to everyone
this is where most people go wrong…
they try to make their brand “universal.”
truth bomb:
if you’re trying to please everyone,
you’ll connect with no one.
for JorrDaar Couple, i leaned into what makes us unique:
we’re a power couple, unapologetically blending love and ambition.
we’re not for everyone and that’s the point.
4️⃣ storytelling is king, queen, and the whole kingdom
facts tell, but stories sell.
your audience doesn’t care about what you do, they care about why you do it.
that’s why we are sharing:
the struggles we face as a couple.
our behind-the-scenes chaos.
lessons we’re learning while building this brand.
stories build trust.
and trust builds brands.
5️⃣ stay human
in the world of AI-generated captions and curated feeds,
authenticity is rare and that’s exactly why it stands out.
i am making sure JorrDaar Couple felt real.
raw moments, bloopers, and unpolished posts etc…
people don’t connect with perfection…
they connect with personality.
the biggest lesson? marketing is never “perfect”
you’ll always feel like something’s off.
that’s normal.
but the magic happens when you’re willing to adapt, experiment, and stay true to your brand’s core.
so, if you’re feeling stuck right now, ask yourself:
are you truly listening to your audience?
are you testing new ideas or stuck in the same old routine?
are you trying too hard to be perfect?
your answers will show you where to start.
which of these 5 strategies are you going to try first?
or, is there something you’re already doing that’s working?
